Sydney is proud to be associated with the successful re-erection
of the giant 'Sprinter' sculpture so familiar to Sydneysiders
from the top of Centrepoint AMP tower.
Last weekend,
NSW Premier Bob Carr officially opened a collection of 3 public
artworks for the 'Games Memories program' at Homebush Bay
to commemorate the 2000 Olympic Games.
Standing
12m tall, and weighing approximately 6t, the sculpture is
erected on a structural steel cantilevered platform in front
of Stadium Australia, at the corner of Dawn Fraser and Edwin
Flack Avenues.
The sculpture
was created by artist Dominique Sutton and the new installation
was designed by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer - Architects, with structural
engineering by Hyder Consulting. It depicts the athletic form
of the sprinter at maximum pace, and is a spectacular addition
to Sydney Olympic Park.
KANE was
Construction Manager on behalf of Sydney Olympic Park Authority
(SOPA).
